حَاكَ الثَّوْبَ, aor. يَحُوكُ, inf. n. حَوْكٌ (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ) and حِيَاكٌ (Ḳ) and حِيَاكَةٌ, (Ṣ, Ḳ,) [which last see also below,] He wove the piece of cloth. (Ṣ, Ḳ.) [See also art. حيك.]

Hence, حاك الشِّعْرَ, aor. as above, inf. n. حَوْكٌ, ‡ He wove poetry. (Mbr, TA.)

And المَطَرُ يَحُوكُ الأَرْضَ, inf. n. حَوْكٌ, ‡ [The rain frets the surface of the ground; makes rippling lines upon it.] (TA.)

حاك الشَّىْءُ فِى صَدْرِى, (Ḳ,) inf. n. حَوْكٌ, or, accord. to Az, the aor. of the verb in this case is يَحِيكُ, (TA,) [and the inf. n. is حَيْكٌ, (see art. حيك,)]The thing became fixed in my mind. (Ḳ.) [See also حَكَّ.]


5. ⇒ تحوّك

تحوّك بِالثَّوْبِ, (Az in art. حبك,) andاحتاك↓ بِهِ, (Aṣ, ISk, Ḳ in art. حيك,) i. q. اِحْتَبَى بِهِ, (Aṣ, ISk, Ḳ in art. حيك, and TA,) i. e. He drew his legs against his belly with the garment, or piece of cloth, confining them therewith, together with his back, and binding it, or making it tight, upon them, so as to preserve him from falling, [when he sat,] like a wall. (IAth, TA in art. حبو.) [See 1 in art. حبك.]


8. ⇒ احتوكاحتاك


حَوْكٌ

حَوْكٌ inf. n. of 1 [q. v.]. (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ.)

Root: حوك - Entry: حَوْكٌ Signification: A2

[Hence,] ذَا عَلَى حَوْكِ ذَاThis is like this in age, and in aspect, appearance, or person. (A, TA.) Andنَاسٌ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَوْكَةٌ↓ قُرَيْشٍMen who do not resemble Kureysh. (A, TA.)


حَوَكٌ

حَوَكٌ as used in the saying هٰؤُلَآءِ حَوَكُ سَوْءٍ, meaning † These are children that are lean, or emaciated, or slender in the bones, and small in the body, has no sing. form. (O, TA.)

حِيَاكَةٌ

حِيَاكَةٌ The art of weaving. (Lth, Mṣb.*) [See also 1, of which it is said in the Ṣ and Ḳ to be an inf. n.]


حَائِكٌ / حَائِكَةٌ

حَائِكٌ A weaver: [fem. with ة:] (Ṣ, Ḳ:) pl. masc. حَاكَةٌ and حَوَكَةٌ, (Ṣ, Mgh, Mṣb, Ḳ,) the former regular, (TA,) and the latter anomalous, (Ṣ, TA,) like خَوَنَةٌ [pl. of خَائِنٌ]; (Ṣ in art. خون;) and pl. fem. حَوَائِكُ. (Ṣ, Ḳ.)


مَحَاكَةٌ

مَحَاكَةٌ A place of weaving. (Ṣ, Ḳ.)


مَحْوَكَةٍ

تَرَكْتُهُمْ فِى مَحْوَكَةٍI left them [engaged] in light. (Ḳ, TA.)
