غَامَتِ السَّمَآءُ, (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ,) aor. تَغِيمُ, inf. n. غَيْمٌ; (Mṣb;) andتغيّمت↓; andغَيَّمَت↓, (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ,) inf. n. تَغْيِيمٌ; (Ḳ;) andأَغَامَت↓ (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ) and أَغْيَمَت; (Ṣ, Ḳ;) all signify the same; (Ṣ;) The sky was, or became, clouded, or covered with clouds. (Ṣ,* Mṣb, Ḳ.*)

غَامَ, aor. يَغِيمُ, (Ṣ, Ḳ,) inf. n. غَيْمٌ, (KL,) He was, or became, thirsty, (Ṣ, Ḳ, KL,* [like عَامَ,]) and affected with internal heat. (Ṣ, Ḳ)

And غام إِلَى المَآءِ, aor. as above, inf. n. غَيْمَةٌ and غَيَمَانٌ and مَغْيَمٌ, is mentioned by IAạr [as signifying He thirsted for water, or the water: or he thirsted for it vehemently, accord. to an explanation of غَيْمَةٌ given below]. (TA.)

[Hence,] غيّم اللَّيْلُ, (Ḳ,) inf. n. تَغْيِيمٌ, (TA,) ‡ The night became like the غَيْم [or clouds]; (Ḳ;) became dark, and came like the clouds. (TA.)

And غيّم الطَّائِرُ † The bird fluttered over one's head, not going to a distance; on the authority of Th: mentioned by IAạr as with غين and تاء [evidently mistranscriptions for عين and ثاء: see عَيَّثَ]. (TA.)

أَغَامَتِ السَّمَآءُ and أَغْيَمَت: see 1.

أَغْيَمَ القَوْمُ [The people, or party, had a clouded sky;] clouds came upon the people, or party. (Ṣ, Ḳ.)

And أَغْيَمَ He (a man, TA) became stationary (Ḳ, TA) like the clouds. (TA.)

غَيْمٌ, originally an inf. n., from غَامَتِ السَّمَآءُ [q. v.], (Mṣb,) Clouds; (Ṣ, Mṣb, Ḳ, TA;) n. un. with ة {غَيْمَةٌ}: (Mṣb:) or [an expanse of clouds covering the sky,] when one sees not a sun (Kr, TA) by reason of much covering of the sky: (TA:) [and often meaning mist:] pl. غُيُومٌ and غِيَامٌ. (TA.)

Also Thirst: and internal heat. (AA, Ṣ, Ḳ.) [See also غَيْمَةٌ.]

And Anger, wrath, or rage, (Ḳ, TA,) which is from internal heat. (TA.)

And a certain disease in camels, like that called قُلَاب [q. v.], except that it does not kill: (Ḳ, TA:) it is said that the asterism of the Pleiades (الثُّرَيَّا, q. v.,) does not rise nor set aurorally without there being sickness, mostly in the camels, which are then affected with the disease thus called. (Az, TA.)

شَجَرٌ غَيْمٌ Dense, or tangled, trees: like غَيْنٌ [which is a dial. var. of غَيْمٌ in other senses]. (TA.)

غَيْمَة Thirst; so says AʼObeyd: or vehemence of thirst: thus in the trad. cited under عَيْمَةٌ [q. v.]. (TA.) [See also غَيْمٌ.]

غَيْمان Thirsty: and affected with internal heat: fem. غَيْمَى: (Ṣ, Ḳ:) the latter applied to a woman. (Ṣ.)

يَوْمٌ غَيُوم [A cloudy day;] a day having غَيْم [or clouds, or clouds covering the sky]. (Th, TA.)

مَغْيُومٌ A camel affected with the disease termed غَيْم: (Az, Ḳ, TA:) such scarcely ever, or never, dies. (Az, TA.)
