1. (شهم)

شَهُمَ, aor. ـُ, (Ṣ, Ḳ,) inf. n. شَهَامَةٌ (Ṣ, TA) and شُهُومَةٌ, (TA,) He (a man) was, or became, hardy, strong, sturdy, enduring, or patient; (Ṣ;) [or] acute of mind or intellect; (Ṣ, Ḳ;) clever, ingenious, sharp, or penetrating. (Ḳ.)

شَهْمٌ

شَهْمٌ, applied to a man, Hardy, strong, sturdy, enduring, or patient; (Ṣ;) acute of mind or intellect; (Ṣ, Ḳ;) clever, ingenious, sharp, or penetrating; andمَشْهُومٌ↓ signifies the same: pl. of the former شِهَامٌ (Ḳ) [and app. شُهُمٌ also: see سُهُمٌ, and see what here follows].

شَهَامٌ i. q. سِعْلَاةٌ [app. meaning The kind of goblin, or demon, thus called]. (Aṣ, Ṣ, Ḳ.)


شَيْهَمٌ

شَيْهَمٌ The دُلْدُل [q. v., i. e. hedge-hog; or a certain species of hedge-hog; &c.]: (Ḳ:) [see also the last sentence of this paragraph:] and, (Ḳ,) or accord. to AZ, (TA,) the male hedge-hog: (Ṣ, Ḳ, TA:) or such as has large prickles or spines, of male hedge-hogs, (Ḳ, TA,) and the like. (TA.) عَلَى ظَهْرِ شَيْهَمٍ, occurring in a verse of El-Aạshà, is said by AO to mean † In a state of fright, or fear. (TA.)
